You cannot find this news anywhere else.I don´t know how big football is in your house, but here at Militia, its one of the few topics that come up from time to time besides music. If you think you can outplay us, why not join our annual ESPN Fantasy Football Challenge that allows you to pick your team from the entire NFL every week. There are a ton of bands and people from different labels taking part (and a few celebrities as our intern Ali calls them), so why not join us? There is a link up at our website, www.themilitiagroup.com

Uprising Festival on Saturday
Copeland and Brandtson to play this SaturdayIf you´re anywhere in the Southern California region this Saturday (September 16th), you should cruise over to the Verizon Amphitheater.

There will be a ton of bands, but more importantly you get to get a glimpse of Copeland´s new songs off of their upcoming LP, Eat, Sleep, Repeat. Equally important, is the opportunity to shake your hips to Brandtson.
Uprisingfest.com for more info.

Tahiti 80 - Tahiti 80 is the band, France is the place (kinda), and 11/14/06 is the date

We would like to start out this newsletter with a kaboom by introducing you to our latest signing, Tahiti 80. The band is a French indie-pop combo. Did I mention that Neal Pogue and Serban Ghenea mixed their latest record, Fosbury? If those two names ring a bell, it´s probably because they are the same two masterminds that engineer for Outkast and NERD. Tahiti 80´s Fosbury hits stores November 14th, 2006. The album is loaded full of exclusive goodies! In addition to two unreleased tracks, we are adding a US exclusive bonus EP with three cover songs and one remix. If you can´t wait two months, head over to their myspace and check out some of the tunes. Make sure to put on your dancing shoes first.Tour dates can be found at themilitiagroup.com.

Copeland - Eat, Sleep, Repeat., Death and Taxes Tour

Everyone here at the TMG office has been hearing Copeland´s third full-length, Eat, Sleep, Repeat, bumping from Chad Pearson’s office over the past few months and I must confide to you that it is one tasty auditory treat. Eat, Sleep, Repeat comes out on Oct. 31, which happens to be Halloween—a fitting release date for a haunting album like this one.And if you can´t wait until Halloween, there is a video up on Copeland´s myspace that has clips from some of the new songs from Eat, Sleep, Repeat. Also, you can catch Copeland on tour with Jackass Mannequin through October and after that, on the Death and Taxes tour with The Appleseed Cast, Acute, and OwenTour dates can be found at themilitiagroup.com.

Lakes - New E.P. release, spin.com band of the day, AP.net review tour dates

Lakes, featuring Seth Roberts (ex-Watashi Wa), released their debut album this past Tuesday. Spin.com called the Photographs EP mean expansive, tuneful collection demonstrating Roberts' tendency towards upbeat lyricism and melodies. There are rumors going around that some of the songs feature Aaron Marsh of Copeland and Mike Herrera of MXPX. Photographs EP is available at most stores and online at tmgstore.com. You can also download it from iTunes.AND, if you order their debut EP from tmgstore.com soon, you may still be able to get a thank you call from Mr. Seth Roberts himselfOn Friday, September 8, Lakes were the Spin.com featured band of the day. The article is a really good read and recommended by all of us here at the office. There is also a free download at the bottom of the page for Indian Lover off of Photographs E.P.

It´s not stealing if we give it to you. There is a review of Photographs EP up at absolutepunk.net. Fine journalism boys, fine journalism.Lakes website is still brand spankin new. The design looks fantastic. It´s grandparent safe and environmentally friendly. Log off your myspace.com and youtube and go to a real website: lakesband.com

See Lakes this fall on the Text on the Dance Floor tour with Wheatus, Melee, Fall of Transition and others. Below are the confirmed dates, but there is more coming soon!Tour dates can be found at themilitiagroup.com.

Denison Witmer - Safe Away re-release with extras, European tour

If you can find me one person who can honestly admit that they did not enjoy Denison´s Are You A Dreamer?, I will hop in my car, drive to said personas location of living, and then proceed to look at them, tilt my head in a quizzical manner, and just stand there until he/she confesses the truth. The CD possesses the Holy Grail quality of being timeless. My grandparents enjoyed it, Mom loves it, my hipster friends like it, and my dog barks at me until I put it in. Denison´s latest Militia release takes a glimpse into his past.

Safe Away was originally recorded when Denison was 19-years-old and it shows someone destined for something huge. The album is a two-disc set featuring Safe Away, a brand new EP entitled Are You A Sleeper?, live tracks w/ Saxon Shore, and other bonus tracks. It is quite the package. The two-disc set comes out October 31, 2006.As far as touring goes, Denison is all over the place. He is playing so shows down here in Southern California before he jumps on the jet and heads across the pond.Tour dates can be found at themilitiagroup.com.

Jill Cunniff - From Luscious Jackson to solo, City Beach release date

Jill Cunniff. You may not know the name but if you had ears and a functional hearing mechanism in the 90s you definitely know her voice. She sang in the band Luscious Jackson that had hits such as Lady Finger and Naked Eye.Her solo album, City Beach, will be released on The Militia Group in early 2007. It´s a guilt-free pop album full of hooks and catchy choruses. It is also mellow enough for a Sunday morning and bouncy enough for a Friday night. You can check out a few of the tunes from “City Beach” on Jill Cunniff´s myspace. Shea´s lonely, go ahead and add her if you like what you hear.

Umbrellas - Illuminare, Scott to Judge design contest, spin.com band of the day, fall tour, new website

Needless to say, everyone here at the office is pretty impressed by Scott Windsor of the Umbrellas latest release. Illuminare hit record store shelves on July 25th and has received critical acclaim. Alternative press gave it a four out of five in their October issue. It´s a pretty saucy album in itself. Check out some of the tracks on Umbrellas myspace. if you haven´t heard anything yet. It´s a great album for seducing that significant others of yours. Or spending another night alone.Mr. Umbrella himself (Scott Windsor of Umbrellas) was selected as a judge for the Umbrella Inside Out Design Contest which is sponsored by treehugger.com. Scott will be judging functional earth-friendly umbrella designs and women´s couture garments fashioned from old umbrellas. Umbrellas were the featured Spin.com band of the day a few weeks ago. They´ve decided Illuminare falls softly between Dashboard Confessional's Trapper Keeper paeans and the Postal Service's delicate synth pop. There´s a free download of Crooked at the bottom of the page. You be the judge. The consensus around the office is that the new Umbrellas website is GLORIOUS. www.umbrellasmusic.com

From September to November, Umbrellas will be bringing their music to a city near you. They will be on tour, in support of Illuminare, with The Forecast, Down to Earth Approach, and New London Fire before crossing paths with Stellamaris and Lakes in October. More will be announced soon so keep an eye on themilitiagroup.com for the latest dates.

Lovedrug - New Website, New Song, New Tour

Getting a new website is kind of like getting a new car. It´s really nice to look at, it smells new, and all you want to do is just get it in and drive. The problem with getting a new car is that you usually don´t want anyone else to get in it and drive. We WANT you to drive Lovedrug´s new website. Lovedrugmusic.com

And while you´re firing up this fine piece of Detroit machinery for the first time, you may notice that there is a new song playing on the stereo. The song is from a limited edition tour EP that Lovedrug will be bringing out on tour with them. Wait, a tour? That being said, Lovedrug is headed out on a headlining tour with Brandtson and the Myriad. They are cruising across America so don´t miss the drug that is love. Barrel roll over to themilitiagroup.com for tour dates.

The Rocket Summer - The Early Years E.P., Austin City Limits Festival

On November 14, Militia will be releasing The Early Years EP, which was an album Bryce Avary recorded and self-released when he was 16-years-old. The Early Years EP has been out of print for quite some time now. We kept the recording pretty much as is to preserve the integrity of this glimpse into the youthful Bryce Avary. It is wonderfully raw and fun—a must have for every Rocket Summer fan. Tracklisting:1. So Far Away2. My Typical Angel3. Teenage Love Rock4. That´s What She Said5. December Days6. She´s A SevenCatch The Rocket Summer September 16th in Austin, TX at the Austin City Limits Music Festival with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, String Cheese Incident, Ben Harper, The Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley, and more.

Brandtson - MTVU Freshman, Wheatus tour, Lovedrug dates

Brandtson´s Nobody Dances Anymore was a part of the MTVU freshman contest. It didn´t win, but should have. You haven´t seen the last of Chad stripping on camera, Wyatt shirtless, and Nobody Dances Anymore. If you missed Brandtson this summer with Umbrellas, don´t fret. There are hitting the asphalt hard with Melee and Corey Crowder before embarking on the Text on the Dance Floor tour with Wheatus, The Fall of Transition, and Mayday Parade.

After the Wheatus tour, they are headed on a cross-country tour with Lovedrug and Myriad. So, if for some reason, you missed them on the Wheatus tour, you now have a chance to redeem yourself.Which brings us to my next point: Brandtson is a touring force to be reckoned with. They are probably coming to your town or a town within 50 miles from you in the next three months.

In fact, from now until mid-December, they only have four or five days off. Now that´s dedication.Their tour dates was too long so we posted them up at themilitiagroup.com

The video is up on youtube.com. The guitars sound great and the vocals are spot on.Controlling the Famous is currently wrapping up their tour with buzz band, Agent Sparks. Cartel - Pre-RL, VMA Kick-off concert, Kimmel, NFG + The Early November tour

Earlier this month, Cartel was featured on MTV´s Pre-RL segment, which showcases the bands that are CLOSE to making the countdown. Cartel hasn´t cracked TRL yet, but the guys are close. You can help by voting for them daily at mtv.com. Do it, because Mr. T is watching. The guys played the MTV VMA kickoff concert on August 29, cementing the fact that they are hotter then hot right now. No one at the office saw this.

Did any of you out there get a chance to catch it?If you had a chance to catch Cartel on Jimmy Kimmel live a few weeks ago, you probably saw Chad, Rory, Randall, Lindsay, and Wyatt from the office rocking out in the crowd.Cartel is embarking on an almost two-month tour with New Found Glory, The Early November, and Hit the Lights. They are hitting up pretty much every city in the US, so there is no excuse for missing them.If you haven´t figured out that the tour dates are at themiltiagroup.com, go. Just go. INTERVIEW: DJ Jonty SKRUFFF´S interviews Kristan Beyer from German electronic duo Âme .
Minimal is over predicts German minimal star
13/09/2006

Kristan Beyer from German electronic duo Âme chatted to Skrufff this week about their already hugely successful minimal tech-house anthem Rej and revealed that he absolutely loathes most minimal music.“Some tracks are good but in my opinion 90% of this music is bullshit,” said Kristan.

“Rej is a big hit with the American guys like Louis Vegas, Francois Kevorkian, Timmy Regisford as well as the minimal guys like Richie Hawtin but we’ve never made minimal music and I don’t like minimal music at all,” he stressed. “We think it’s only popular because it’s the best music to accompany the drugs people do these days. In Germany we call it ketamine music,” he added. The former Sonar Kollektiv star and Jazzanova peer stressed Âme come from a ‘more traditional house and techno music’ background and predicted minimal’s days are numbered.

LABEL: (OM RECORDS)

IN STORES EVERYWHERE NOW!

The full length album from Land Shark a.k.a. Lance DeSardi on Coco Machete/OM will shake up any preconceived notions held by fans of alternative rock and electronic music. Having teamed up with Om Records for his 2004 “San Francisco Sessions” release…The Land Shark project is an edgy departure from Lance’s previous releases as an underground house music mainstay. Still deeply rooted in dance rhythms, Land Shark takes derailing hard left turns into the sonic realms of industrial, punk and electro.

Touring this Fall, performing LIVE…the Land Shark sound is sure to acquire a filthy, sultry, dark following…Angular synths, gravelly baselines, hypnotic live & electronic drums and DeSardi’s commanding vocals. Watch for the first single “Shake Me” on 12” vinyl coming soon!

“In the house arena, Lance DeSardi's always been known to embrace the bizarre to the point it made him a bit of an outcast, but this longplayer takes DeSardi to new heights of insanely funky quirkiness. Landshark is truly demented.” -Jen Boyles, URB

“Excellent depraved electro-disco debut from Lance DeSardi with vocals like an obscene phone call and a latex-smooth production that's more pleasure than pain.” -NME
“Land Shark pushes the house crowd to the limits (edge) with his dark, freaky, industial tracks.” -XLR8R
“Land Shark offers a debut album of dirty, sex obsessed vocals and slick beats.” -DJ

“The debut release of producer Lance DeSardi fuses jackin' beats and electro seduction!” -BBC

Gigs & Bytes:Makin' Movies
Is Apple going Hollywood? That's the latest rumor from the high-tech grapevine. While no one will go on record, the usual "knowledgeable sources" are whispering that Apple is on the verge of striking a movie-download deal for its iTunes Music Store. Of course, Steve Jobs is hardly a stranger to Tinsel Town. It was back in 1986 when Apple's co-founder purchased an outfit called the "Graphics Group" from George Lucas and renamed it Pixar. And even though Disney officially acquired Pixar earlier this year, Jobs remains an influence, emerging as Disney's largest individual stockholder and occupying a seat on the Mouse's board of directors.

So rumors of Jobs & Company hitting up major studios for feature film download rights carry a little more weight than your average gossip mill chatter. Especially with the Apple Expo kicking off in France on September 12th. On that day, Apple is supposed to announce a movie/iTunes/iPod deal during a "special media event" in San Francisco. As with all good rumors, no one is talking. At least not officially. However, there are plenty of "undisclosed sources" and "anonymous" studio execs who are more than happy to talk about it – as long as they remain unidentified. The gist is that Apple has been talking to several studios. But while some studios are definitely in favor of an iTunes presence, others have yet to hurdle disagreements with Apple. Supposedly, one disagreement centers on Apple's one-price-fits-all policy, while another issue is whether films should be released on iTunes the same day the movies are released on DVD. Then there's the copy protection dilemma.

Many studios already have download agreements with other online movie stores, yet Apple might seek a different copy protection agreement than what is in place. Since Apple has strived for uniformity on iTunes with all songs carrying the same copy limitations, the computer company may not be all that accommodating to studios wanting to keep a tighter rein on their products. Furthermore, Microsoft's upcoming digital player, Zune, also handles video. And, as we all know, Microsoft has its own digital rights management system. But will movie fans cotton to watching flicks on their iPods? Will "Jaws," "Titanic" or even "Snakes On A Plane" appear as dynamic on iPod's postage-size screens as in movie houses? Although Apple is expected to introduce a new, wide-screen iPod in the coming months, there are indications that folks aren't all that worked up about seeing full-length feature films on something that can fit in the palm of one's hand.

A recent Associated Press / AOL survey reported that only one in five online video viewers has watched or downloaded a full-length movie or TV show. What's more, only 7 percent of current Internet video watchers have actually purchased video online. Clearly not a good sign of things to come. However, that's not to say Internet surfers don't watch video.

The same survey said that more than half of Internet users watch or download video in the form of news clips, music videos and user-generated fare. But while the average Internet user's video attention span seems to be concurrent with the maximum length of clips found on YouTube, the expectation is that the time consumers are willing to spend viewing clips on tiny screens will increase as more user-friendly video-viewing devices become available. No one is predicting a future where movies will not be available on the Net.

Instead, it's disagreements on profit margins, distribution control and copy protection that's keeping Hollywood from venturing deeper into the digital downloading waters. An Apple deal, or perhaps a downloading agreement with another high-profile company like Amazon, which is also pursuing its own agreement with Hollywood, would surely transfer movie downloading from the niche market it currently occupies into the mainstream. But almost all of this is conjecture, because Apple has yet to comment on reports that it's about to enter the movie download biz. However, all will be revealed on September 12th. At least that's what the rumors say.

SKRUFFF NEWS

Cut Copy- Australian rock-electro’s finest

“Electroclash didn’t really hit in Australia it was much more of a UK/ UK thing. In Australia there were a handful of DJs who followed it but I don’t think there was much of an interest in it, here in Australia; it passed us by. I guess it was a little too ironic for Australians.”Chatting down the line from his Melbourne studio, Cut Copy founder and song-writer Dan Whitford is adamant his band’s fusion of vocal drenched rocked up dance music has no connection with electroclash or any particular newer trend, though is happier flying the flag for his Australian roots.“We’re definitely representing Australia though I wouldn’t describe us as being part of a scene as far as other bands in Melbourne are concerned,” says Dan.

I'm From Barcelona - We're From Barcelona single (Interpop)CD & 7" - CDIPOP3 / IPOP3

Named after Fawlty Towers' Manuel (he’s from Barcelona, si?), and formed in Jonkoping, Sweden by Emanuel Lundgren, I'm From Barcelona are 29 (count em!) friends who gathered together and, fuelled with the energy that only a sunny summer holiday can bring, created an album of explosively happy pop songs.

Emanuel's flat transformed into a factory where band members embraced a do-it-yourself ethic, coming and going loaded with banjos, accordions and kazoos and eventually releasing a DIY EP.
First single, We're From Barcelona, has a chorus it's impossible not to sing along with and a fantastic video that has already clocked up over 150,000 hits on YouTube and is gathering more and more converts to the 'biggest" band in Sweden's party (see for yourself:
www.youtube.com)

The single is followed by the Swedish collective's debut album, Let Me Introduce My Friends.
