FABOLOUS POSTS BAIL, FACING INVESTIGATION

New York City officials charged FABOLOUS and three of the rapper's friends with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon yesterday. (Police discovered two guns in the rapper's 2005 Dodge Magnum after pulling it over early Tuesday morning for allegedly running a red light. Fabolous and his entourage were fleeing the scene of a shooting in a nearby parking garage, where the rapper sustained an injury.) PHIL COLLINS CONFIRMS GENESIS REUNION

PETER GABRIEL may still want to take a sledgehammer to the rest of GENESIS, but PHIL COLLINS has managed to wrangle up guitarist MIKE RUTHERFORD and keyboardist TONY BANKS for a worldwide reunion tour. A spokesman for the trio has said that "long term plans"--including recording some possible new material--will be announced in the coming weeks.

COLDPLAY BUY MASSIVE RECORDING/REHEARSAL SPACE

Despite COLDPLAY's extended hiatus plans, the British band has reportedly bought space in a London building that currently houses recording studios and offices. Recently, however, the label has branched out into urban music, forming a subsidiary, Om Hip-Hop, that has not only bucked the trend toward mindless, mainstream-oriented rap, but also revitalized the notion of the album in a genre typically distinguished by singles.

Most interestingly, Om has done it with some truly left-field thinking, using the label's reputation to establish little-known but supremely talented artists who have quickly become major players in the alternative hip-hop field, due to their high degree of musicality and originality. Following the 2005 release of Colossus' "West Oaktown," an album that reintroduced a jazz sensibility to hip-hop, Om recently released Strange Fruit Project's "The Healing."

The album has already garnered some of the strongest reviews in the label's history and lodged in the top 10 on the iTunes charts -- a significant accomplishment for any label, let alone an indie mainly known for four-on-the-floor anthems and ambient chill-out jams.

Although Om is mainly seen as an electronic music tastemaker, hip-hop has always been a part of the label's vision, according to Marketing Vice President Gunnar Hissim, 31, and Om Hip-Hop A&R Jonathan McDonald, 25.

DANITY KANE RECOVERING FROM CAR ACCIDENT

In a bulletin on their MySpace page late last night, the DIDDY-endorsed girl group DANITY KANE posted details of a bad car accident. "The girls are in the hospital and trying to get better," the statement said. "The girls felt so bad about not being able to attend the club appearance and still wanted to show up. Clearly the doctor did not grant their wishes." The group's members are expected to make full recoveries.

BONO AND OPRAH FIGHT THE AIDS EPIDEMIC

BONO and OPRAH WINFREY took to the streets of Chicago yesterday for a shopping spree designed to promote the "(Product) RED" campaign, Bono's initiative to help women and children with HIV/AIDS in Africa. The pair hit the Apple store to pick up special-edition (RED) iPods before hitting the Gap to check out the store's new (RED) line. Proceeds from the sales of both will benefit the Global Fund. "Some people won't put on marching boots, so we've got to get to people where they are at, and they're in the shopping malls," Bono said to the Associated Press. "Now you're buying jeans and T-shirts, and you're paying for ten women in Africa to get medication for their children with HIV." Motorola, Converse and Armani will also participate in the charity drive over the next several weeks.

INCUBUS PLAN BRIEF THEATER TOUR

Having had their fill of arenas for the past few years, INCUBUS intend to launch a theater trek in support of the November 28th release of "Light Grenades." "We just decided it was a really good time in our career to step back," guitarist MIKE EINZINGER told Billboard. The resurrection of Hooj

Progressive house label Hooj Choons is preparing to make a comeback in 2007.

There's not a prog DJ out there who doesn't own at least one or more 12 inches released on Hooj Choons. In progressive's heyday the label was responsible for some of the genre's finest moments such as Space Manoeuvres 'Stage One', Pete Lazonby 'Sacred Cycles' and Lustral 'Everytime'. Its iconic logo of a stick figure DJ spinning on two decks was regularly seen jutting out of record crates.

Hooj was one of the victims of the slump in UK clubland a few years ago, eventually shutting up shop in September 2003. But good news for fans of the label -- it's firing up again in early 2007. Before they release any vinyl, however, Hooj are releasing new remixes and unreleased versions of back catalogue tracks on Beatport over the next six weeks with one release per week.

Appropriately, the first release is 'Resurrection' by Medway which originally came out in 1998, appearing on John Digweed's Global Underground Hong Kong compilation. This digital version will include a new ambient dub plus remixes by Chris & Kai and Delikate Imposters, which actually had a limited vinyl run on Release Grooves in November 2005.

Latest Poker Flat comp includes discs from Steve Bug and Martin Landsky. ‘Poker Flat Volume 5 Bets'n'Bluffs’ also comes as a vinyl package including six new tracks...Poker Flat is the label owned by Steve Bug that is home to artists such as Argy, Martini Bros and John Tejada. Besides its regular vinyl output, this year the label has also released albums from Guido Schneider and Trentemoller. The next Poker Flat album to hit shelves however is a double CD label compilation.

CD1 is an unmixed disc compiled by Steve Bug, the other is a mix CD from up-and-comer Martin Landsky.

Bug's disc is his third for 2006, following on from ‘Bugnology 2’ and ‘Skin is In’ mixes, and it looks like he's saved the big-hitters until last. His CD includes some of Poker Flat's biggest releases from the last eighteen months such as the Luciano remix of Argy's 'Love Dose', John Tejada’s 'Asanebo' and latest Trentemoller single 'Always Something Better'. It also includes brand new tracks from Guido Schneider and Philippe Autuori. Landsky is one of Poker Flat's longest-serving artists who has already released ten 12 inches the label. He's also a capable DJ, mixing the second Poker Flat label comp released in 2002.

This summer, Landsky's '1000 Miles' blew up on dancefloors around the globe, and it features on the CD besides older label cuts from Chardronnet vs Afrilounge and Martini Bros plus new productions from Jamie Jones, John Tejada & Bilal Bashir and producer-of-the-moment Martin Buttrich.

'Poker Flat Volume 5 Bets'n'Bluffs' will be sold as a double CD and a double vinyl pack. The vinyl version includes the six tracks produced exclusively for the compilation.

OKKERVIL RIVER tour USA in October, new single out in December
Still recovering from some wicked jet lag from their tour in the land down under, OKKERVIL RIVER wowed the crowd on their hometown stage during two shows at last weekend's Austin City Limits Festival. It has been a busy month for the band - along with ACL Fest and touring Australia, Lou Reed was quoted in the Denver Post as well as on the on MTV's Video Music Awards endorsing Okkervil River as one of his favorite new bands. He's got great taste. And now the band is about to embark on a domestic tour in October playing mostly all-ages venues.
Also we're excited to announce the upcoming release of their new limited edition 12" single "The President's Dead". It will be the first release by Okkervil River since 2005's masterful Black Sheep Boy project. Having spent most of 2005 touring and writing, the band and Jagjaguwar wanted to get this single out before 2006 came to a close. Locked in the grooves of this limited-edition vinyl-only release is what might be Okkervil River's most accessible and most contentious song, "The President's Dead." A two-minute and forty-two second serving of alternative historical fiction camouflaged as a folk anthem tarted up as a pop single that never was, "The President's Dead" empathetically depicts the shock felt by a young Republican upon hearing news of an assassination over the radio, its lyrics shifting sneakily from images of public horror to those of private tenderness as its music performs a similarly schizoid leap. Meanwhile, sequestered away on side 2, the lyric that bobs atop the loping, twangy pop of "The Room I'm Hiding In" depicts a paranoid flight from vastly more powerful pursuers determined to exact
the most severe punishment.

Having just finished a successful string of dates with CALEXICO and M. WARD, OAKLEY HALL soldier on, hitting the road again for all of October. LADYHAWK back in the USA for a fall tour, release Fader Magazine-sponsored 7-inch with M. WARD

LADYHAWK will hit the road for a 2-week U.S. and Canadian tour beginning in late October. They'll make a pit stop at the Jagjaguwar/Brah Records CMJ showcase in NYC, then they'll head west for another week.
They will also appear on a limited-edition split 7-inch with M. WARD. It's being released by Fader Magazine as a magazine/website giveaway, and will feature a previously unreleased track entitled "Soap". The 7-inch will be made available in mid-November.

ASPERA members start two new projects: FAVOURITE SONS and BLOODFEATHERS
THE FAVOURITE SONS (Vice Records) and BLOOD FEATHERS (Box Theory Records) are set to impress new listeners with debut albums that have been turning some heads.
Matthew Werth, Justin Tripp and AJ Edmiston teamed up with Ken Griffen (Rollerskate Skinny) to form The Favourite Sons. Their debut "Down Beside Your Beauty" is out this week and available at Vice Records. They are setting out for a small tour to support the new tunes.
