[BUMBLEBEEZ]

30 TRACKS IN 30 DAYS

Only The Bumblebeez would be prolific, inventive and stupid enough to set themselves the challenge of writing and releasing 30 new songs in 30 days, and this December that ís exactly what they’re going to do.

From this day forth, for the rest of December
The Bumblebeez
main brain Chris Colonna Invisibl AKA Prince Umberto, with the assistance of his sister Pia AKA ViLa and no doubt a ragtag bunch of Braidwoods best, will attempt to write from scratch and record a brand new jam for every day of this month, the fruits of which will be documented and made available daily for download HERE.

These daily artefacts of rhythm and soul will also be prepared for use as mobile phone ringtones so you can assign a different Bumblebeez tone for all your friends in your phonebook, and eventually the cream of the crop will see a release you can touch and feel on some very limited edition 7″ vinyl.

True to form for the band that last year released the dazzling eclectica debut album Prince Umberto & The Sister Of Ill, expect everything from raw punk rock rippers, to hobo house, to lo-fi campfire folk, to some straight up G-funk, and everything in between.

After spending the last 2 months with Adelaide hippy rockers Wolf And Cub camped in his kitchen while he produced their forthcoming album, Colonna has a head full of his own ideas that he’s keen to rinse from his system, and it’s just as well he was given the task at hand.

LiveNation uses Blockbuster to retail

Three-year deal will enable sales in 500 outlets

By PHIL GALLO

Blockbuster will be the exclusive physical retail ticket outlet for Live Nation Ticketing.

The homevideo and game retailer has inked a three-year agreement with concert promoter Live Nation to sell tickets in about 500 outlets. The stores will be in markets that mirror Live Nation's concert venue platform footprint.

Live Nation will launch its full-scale inhouse ticketing agency at the beginning of 2009. The company currently sells about 1 million tickets at physical locations.

Blockbuster and Live Nation expect to offer exclusive concert products and promotions to Blockbuster customers.

Nathan Hubbard, CEO of Live Nation Ticketing, said the company will look "to develop other product lines centered around music for Blockbuster customers."

    SLRS025
  1. Original Mix
  2. Jorn Van Deynhoven Remix
Out Now | Buy LCD Direct
£3.99

Stan Void aka Stanislav Sprogis drops his debut release on Solaris. Russian by birth but now producing out of New York City, Stan has had previous releases on Somatic Sense and Real Music.

Original Mix:

This is a beautiful and intricate trance record
, Stan Void weaves a tapestry of blissful melodies around a driving bassline and progressive percussive elements to create a complex and powerful soundscape.

It is definatly a 'big room' tune - as Rich Solarstone discovered when a huge response greeted the track's first play to 15,000 people in Buenos Aires, such is its emotional power.

Jorn Van Deynhoven Remix:
Dutchman Jorn raises the octane level with this peak time uplifting mix, pumping up the percussion and drive whilst still retaining the immaculately programmed original melodies and signature sounds.

NRK Music - Review Of the Year + Annual Winter Sale!

As we draw to the end of the year, it's a time to reflect on another busy year at NRK HQ. Whilst the music industry has again taken a year of hard knocks (stores closing, distributors going bust, the decline in sales etc.) this has not stopped some quality music being produced this year, and another busy year in the clubs, with new DJs breaking through and new genres creeping in.

Hot Lizard - The Theme 2008
(Charles Webster/Carl Craig/Christian Prommer)

Originally released in 1995, Hot Lizard's "The Theme" became a benchmark release on the mid-90s deep house scene, beefed up by remixes from Detroit's Carl Craig, Charles Webster (under his Love From San Francisco guise) and Mark Broom.

Produced by Charles Webster, Gary Marsden and Paul Wain, "The Theme" was an epic deep tech hybrid, bridging the gap between the deep house sound and the more progressive tech-house records that dominated the late 90s.

NRK re-released "The Theme" this year, with brand new mixes from Charles Webster, Version (Webster & Atjazz), Christian Prommer, and also brought the Original Carl Craig remix back to the fore.

Another busy year for Nick Holder

Canadian doyen of deep, Nick Holder, is an artist that has been with NRK ever since the early days. His 1997 release, "Paradise", was the start of a great kinship between artist and label, racking up countless singles ("Da Sambafrique", "Summer Daze", "No More Dating DJs" etc.) and three artist albums.

Holder continued to produce uncompromising house music in 2008, with a brace of singles out on our label.

"2012", backed with a typically quirky jazz house/broken beat thang called "A Strange Delight", was released in March, and "2012" ploughed straight for the deep dancefloor root; functional beats, percussion and claps, spacey effects, delicate keys and a snaking arpergio riff make this track a hypnotic house nugget.

May 2008 also saw the release of a couple of remixes of “Time”, a cut al
ready championed by Gilles Peterson. Featuring Sacha on vocals, this deep vocal house cut got the remix treatment from two Europeans, namely Wahoo (AKA Dixon & Georg Levin) and Manuel Tur.

Spirit Catcher - Brain Candy EP

Belgium, a land favoured for its beer, its chocolates, and two guys producing top notch electronic music.

Jean Vanesse and Thomas Sohet AKA Spirit Catcher really need no introduction, suffice to say that releases on labels such as 2020 Vision, Freerange, Winding Road, Silver Network and Moodmusic have all captured the Spirit Catcher unique sound since 2003.

The January 08 released "Brain Candy" EP was a huge success, topping charts on Beatport, getting the props from the likes of Pete Tong, Dave Mothersole, Jimpster, Magik Johnson, Fish Go Deep, Nick Warren, and being a heavy vinyl release favourite.

des85 150 15Phonique - "The Pump E.P." - 12" (des85) --- OUT: 12.01.2009

Our man Phonique returns with three hot-off-the-desk tracks. ‚The Pump E.P‘ is a typically genre-bending mixture of pumping, groovy house tracks, exploring the many sides of this highly regarded producer‘s fruitful repertoire.

Lead track ‚The Pump‘ is a vivacious number that takes a clean, modern house aesthetic as a base and later infuses it with a dirtier, earlier morning vibe.

Bike Ride‘ is an even more playful journey into the kooky electronic world of Phonique‘s studio outings. Going down more of a techno route , Tooltime" completes the package and breaks out the big guns for some serious heads down dancefloor ignition".

Dessous Classics - "The Best Of 10 Years" - digital-only (desdd01) --- OUT: 12.12.2008

Ten years on and still Steve Bug‘s highly influential and accredited Dessous imprint burns the midnight oil with heat, passion and ingenuity.

The label is simply in a league of its own, and this compilation celebrates its wonderful 10 year anniversary, with 20 full tracks and a bonus mix by none other than US Deep House legend Kevin Yost.

Dessous Classics - "Vol.1" - 12" (desclassics01) --- OUT: 08.12.2008

Setai San Diego

Even with luxury hotels, most of the perks start to blur together -- at this point, iPod docks and in-room plasmas are as ubiquitous as fake-wood-cased Zeniths and vibrating beds used to be. Luxing the luxe, Setai San Diego, taking reservations now.

A ridiculously opulent Asian-themed uber-manse, Setai's raising the amenities bar with awesome, sometimes awesomely unnecessary offerings, highlighted by a state-of-the-art in-house recording studio (no explanation given), a 34-seat private screening room, and underwater surround-sound in the sprawling outdoor pool -- so "Eye of the Tiger" can fuel your desperate sub-aquatic journey there and back.
All guest rooms feature Brazilian walnut floors, lofty ceilings, and Italian designer furniture, with the souped-up Luxe Suites being equipped w/full Italian kitchens & Sub Zero appliances, and living rooms with adjoining 120 sq ft balconies; all accommodations come with optional twice-daily housekeeping service, as Setai aims to please both you, and your other personality's debilitating OCD.

For high rollers, there's the $20k-per-night, three-story, 100-capacity Grand Penthouse Suite, the largest of any hotel on the West Coast, boasting a custom-designed pool table, kitchen “wine wall”, private rooftop patio with 360-degree views & jacuzzi, and six flatscreens, so when guests get bored talking about how sweet the room is, they can live the dream and watch every Law & Order simultaneously.

Also standing out: the lobby's “sophisticated steakhouse” is helmed by a James Beard-honored chef, while the poolside VIP lounge and cabana bar serves an unusual-for-poolside combo of fine sake and wine, plus the spa offers not just Asian treatments, but also Arabic ones, all supposedly inspired by the "Silk Road" -- because there's luxe pampering, and then there's luxe pampering fit for a Khan.

URGENT NEWS!!!

Neuton insolvency

A FOEM contact has told us today about a rumour (edit: it is no rumour anymore now) that Neuton, one of the biggest music distributors, would be due to announce its insolvency on Monday, December 1, 2008.

Original text: “(…) I just got the bad news today that our vinyl distributor, Neuton, will make an official announcement on Monday that they have filed for insolvency (…)”

After the collapse of the japanese distributor Cisco, the whole label scene and the distributors were under extreme pressure.

We asked again and this was the reply: “We’d rather not forward the private emails, however I can say we’ve heard the news indirectly from two sources that have been in contact with Neuton at the top level. Additionally I can tell you that a US distributor sent out an email to their labels alerting to the problem with Neuton, and to expect more news soon.

I think it’s safe to say that you have heard “reliable rumors” from music industry contacts that Neuton is in trouble and will make an official announcement regarding their status this coming week.”

Neuton works with many top electronic labels, distributing music for diverse labels including Four Twenty, Tresor, Vakant, or Perlon and has worked in the past with labels like Bpitch control , Playhouse, Klang or M_nus.

Although the news is as yet unconfirmed by Neuton (we also asked them), this would be a terrible day for the music industry, and FOEM as a community of vinyl lovers is sad to hear the news.

Neuton is a source of wonderful music!

All this would be just one more step in the domination of the internet in new music, as rising mp3 sales continue to turn the music industry upside down.
