PIONEER DJ

Friday, March 16, 2007

Dear SK friends,
Another month has passed and we have a bunch of new records on the pile! Maybe you want to use your precious weekend to listen to some new music...Enjoy!
SK141 7” – Thief – Atlantic / I Can’t Remember Following their first single Hold on, Hold on (SK129), here is the second strike of the debut album by THIEF.
Atlantic is a classic love song.
The sound is reminiscent of a bygone musical vibe - things like the Californian Sound of the late 60’s but carefully transfered to the here and now.I Can’t Remember (presented in a short version here)shows a very different but equally important aspect of the THIEF sound - the psychedelic element that plays an important role on their forthcoming album Sunchild (SK135CDLP).
A driving rhythm made of heavy drums, bass and electric guitar sound provide the background for strange floating vocals that deal with the paranoia of a capitol city.Has just been released, get it at your local record dealer or in our webshop!

SK135CD/LP – Thief – SunchildAnd speaking of THIEF – here is the long awaited debut album.Sunchild stands very much in the tradition of the big studio albums of the 1960s but it is in no way a retro album. It much more weds classical musical qualities with forward thinking production techniques. Folk and psychedelic sound, the audio openness of tremolo guitars and other "real" instruments meet the futuristic touch of typically JAZZANOVA synthesizers with their sometimes claustrophobic introvertedness.
A perceptive prism of the senses comes about in combination with SASCHA GOTTSCHALK's manic and sensitive lyrics. One thing's for certain: with THIEF, JAZZANOVA and the Sonar Kollektiv have once and for all arrived in the world of song writing.
Release date March 19, already now available in our webshop!

SK140CD/LP – Various Artist -Computer Incarnations For World PeaceComputer Incarnations For World Peace which JAZZANOVA member ALEX BARCK has put together with GERD JANSON (Running Back Rec.) is a compilation which takes the focus on the early 80s, 1981 and 1982 in particular.
Many of the tracks on Computer Incarnations For World Peace originate from a new wave context but there are also pieces by the 1920s born American jazz percussionist RAY BARRETTO as well as the French jazz-fusion violinist JEAN-LUC PONTY. The source of these tracks is very diverse - some have been a regular feature in JAZZANOVA's record box for almost 12 years, other have been rediscovered more recently.Release date March 26, available in our webshop from March 20!

SK136 12“ - Future Beat Investigators - Member Of The Trick 06Oh how time passes! With a flick of the wrist the TRICKSKIs YANNICK LABBÉ and DANIEL BECKER conjure up a new 12" every two months. For this edition they have enlisted the skills of none other than the newly formed Finnish project FBI (FUTURE BEAT INVESTIGATORS): a collaboration between LIL’ TONY (NUSPIRIT HELSINKI), ROBERTO RODRIGUEZ (TRACK N FIELD) and KIMMO OKSANEN (ACID KINGS). The trio have a minimal yet very uplifting techno sound which has already been received with open ears by Raw Fusion, SASSE's Mood Music as well as by TRICKSKI and the Sonar Kollektiv.
Release date March 19, already now available in our webshop!

Hope there’s something in for all of you! And also check our artists coming soon to a venue near you (see below)Have a great weekend!Yours Sonar Kollektiv

Moby - Go - the very best of Moby Remixed albumCD / download - XCDMUTEL14

Go “ Remixed follows on from Go “ the very best of Moby, released in November 2006.
There's so much more to Moby than down-tempo ballads and ethereal torch songs.

Though his recent hit album 'Hotel' and the accompanying 'Hotel Ambient' collection showed his softer, more contemplative artistic side, Moby made his name in club-land in the early nineties with rave anthems like 'Feeling So Real' and 'Go', both of which are included in remixed and updated forms here.

It's not hard to see why so many dance producers have clamoured to work with him over the years. After the Twin Peaks-sampling 'Go' was a smash hit in England, Moby helped show the world that rave could made you shiver as much as it made you smile and shake. His first album for Mute, meanwhile, was 'Everything Is Wrong', a cornerstone of mid-nineties electronica that included the haunting rave anthems 'Hymn' and 'Every Time You Touch Me.'

Last autumn, Mute re-released 'Go' with a slew of new mixes, including the two by Trentemo¸ller and Vitalic that are included here. Also featured from his mid-nineties career are acid house re-rubs from CJ Bolland (whose mix of the James Bond Theme is an evil techno stomp) and a shamelessly upbeat Old Skool Moby remix of 'Feeling So Real'.

Featuring an exclusive unreleased remix of 'In My Heart' by Manhattan Clique, 'Go Remixed' also includes rare and recently unearthed classic mixes by Rollo and Sister Bliss, Armand Van Helden and Bob Sinclar.
The CD offers James Bond Theme (Moby's re-version) and Feeling So Real “ Old Skool mix while the download delivers We Are All Made Of Stars “ Bob Sinclair Main Vocal Mix and Escapar (Slipping Away “ Manhattan Clique edit).

There's never been a better time to 'Go'...
Moby returns to Europe in March to make some rare DJ appearances.

SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST'S URGE TO CONVERGE
Film, music, interactive mingle as never beforeThe South by Southwest music fest had been rocking for eight years when organizers decided to add a combined "film and multimedia" component in 1994. According to Hugh Forrest, event director of SXSW's now-separate interactive festival, the two new disciplines didn't exactly complement one another at first.

SW30 - Scott Walker: 30th Century Man
In May of last year, 4AD had the great honour of releasing the first record in ten years from one of the most influential and enigmatic figures in rock history, Scott Walker. The Drift showcased Scott at his most creative and experimental, striding even further out there than his 1995 release, Tilt.
Scott Walker: 30 Century Man will explore his music and career, from his early days as a jobbing bass player on the Sunset Strip, through mega-stardom in Britain’s swinging 60’s pop scene as lead singer of The Walker Brothers, to his evolution into one of the most astonishing soundmakers of the last few decades.
The film features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the making of The Drift, as well as interviews with friends, collaborators, and fans including, among others:
David Bowie, Radiohead, Jarvis Cocker, Brian Eno, Damon Albarn, Neil Hannon, Alison Goldfrapp, Sting, Dot Allison, Simon Raymonde, Richard Hawley, Rob Ellis, Johnny Marr, Gavin Friday, Lulu, Peter Olliff, Angela Morley, Ute Lemper, Ed Bicknell, Evan Parker, Benjamin Biolay, Hector Zazou, Mo Foster, Phil Sheppard, Pete Walsh, and more.
Directed by Stephen Kijak, who brought you Cinemania (a profile of 5 of NYC's most manic film buffs) and made in collaboration with acclaimed DP/Director Grant Gee (”Radiohead: Meeting People is Easy”), 30 Century Man was also executive-produced by none other than David Bowie.
