NEWSSOURCEDOTCOM:NEW BAND:THE METROS
LABEL:COLUMBIA UK
Signed to 1965 Records and counting Squeeze and The Blockheads amongst their influences, this south east London five-piece produce a somewhat chaotic fusion of punk, funk, ska, pop and witty lyrics about bunking trains, the degradation of the Welfare State, nights out for a tenner and old Cockney lags with sawn-off shooters.

These Peckham lads seem all set to be the latest in a line of knavish but gifted London-based ne’er-do-wells that stretches all the way back to The Small Faces, via Madness, Squeeze, Flowered Up and The Libertines...

They are just about to head out on a University tour with Milburn and their debut single will be out in February. Check out their website for more dates + info:

MYSPACE

Chieftonians,

Hello, we've a few things to tell you, so we thought we'd write.

First up, we've an exclusive show next Sunday (18th November) at BBC Radio Theatre, Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London. It's a gig for Radio 2 and will be in front of an invited audience of just 300...we have 50 pairs of tickets to giveaway for this, so check back to www.kaiserchiefs.co.uk in the next few days for your chance to win tickets.

Secondly, the ltd edition 7" of "Love's Not A Competition (but I'm winning)" is out on Monday 12th Nov, exclusively via our website. You can pre-order it, or buy it next week direct from this link

This is the only place you'll be able to get this 7" other than a very limited amount we'll be selling from the merchandise stand at each of the UK shows on a first come first served basis each night, we're only planning to retail around 50 copies per night, so come down early.

It's also the only place you'll get your hands on The Little Ones cover version of "Everything Is Average Nowadays" which we reckon is ace. One other thing on this 'ere single, there was talk of the 7" being gatefold, we're sorry we've misinformed you on that one...it looks very nice indeed, but it isn't gatefold, so don't ask where the other half is when you get yours in the post next week.

We're currently on the final leg of our European shows before the UK shows start on 21st, they've been great. Berlin...you were the best, but thanks to all of you that have bought tickets and made these gigs so enjoyable. We've been rehearsing some new songs that we hope to be playing you before long, maybe at some point on shows in the next month.

Most of our gigs in the rest of '07 are now Sold Out, but you can still buy tickets to these few. Including tonight's show in Oslo and tomorrow's in Stockholm, if there's any Norwegians or Swedes reading this?

November
09 OSLO, Sentrum Scene NORWAY (plus guests Silversun Pickups & Figurines)
10 STOCKHOLM, Arenen SWEDEN (plus guests Silversun Pickups & Figurines)
12 BREMEN, Pier 2 GERMANY (plus guests Silversun Pickups & Jakobinarina)
15 AMSTERDAM, Heineken Music Hall HOLLAND (plus guests Silversun Pickups & Jakobinarina) (2nd night only, 1st night on 14th SOLD OUT)
16 ANTWERP, Sportpaleis Arena BELGIUM (plus guests Silversun Pickups & Jakobinarina)
27 BIRMINGHAM NIA ENGLAND (plus guests The Pigeon Detectives & Jakobinarina) (2nd night only, 1st night on 26th SOLD OUT)

December
06 GLASGOW SECC SCOTLAND (plus guests We Are Scientists & The Little Ones)
07 LIVERPOOL Aintree Pavilion ENGLAND (plus guests The Mystery Jets & The Little Ones)

There's some new merchandise available online for the first time here. A teaser for the full range that will be on sale on the UK shows later in the month.

Until then... cheers for all your support, if you're Dutch special thanks as you've helped "Yours Truly, Angry Mob" go Gold there this week, and if you're British cheers to you lot too, the album went Double Platinum there this week. Hooray.

See you all at a gig soon

RICHARD YOUNGS' "Autumn Response" is here!

It's Fall.

We know this because the leaves in Indiana are turning many shades of awesome, and because there's a new Richard Youngs album in the hopper, readymade to soundtrack your late mulled cider nights.

The album is called "Autumn Response", and it is a spartan folk-"pop" record filled with tinder-box intimacies. It is a singer-songwriter album, as Youngs' fingers slip over the steel strings with little feet and whispery toes, his gently prophetic songs evoke Roger Waters and the folk phase play is sure to appeal to fans of Animal Collective's Sung Tongs.

Jagjaguwar and BON IVER shack up!

We are seriously thrilled to announce the addition of Bon Iver to the Jagjaguwar family. In early 2008 Jagjaguwar will properly release the debut full-length "For Emma, Forever Ago" that has been making major waves in critics circles based on the strength of an early artist-pressed advance cd and a couple awe-inspiring sets at CMJ a few weeks back.

The New York Times called it "irresistible" and Pitchfork stamped its early review of the album with a Recommended tag. For those of you hiding away in a cabin of your own, it's time that you hear the story, and more importantly, the music.

Free MP3 of "Skinny Love" from "For Emma, Forever ago": http://www.scjag.com/mp3/jag/skinnylove.mp3 Stream the entire album at: http://virb.com/boniver

"The album is a ruminative collection of songs full of natural imagery and acoustic strums -- the sound of a man left alone with his memories and a guitar... Rarely does folk -- indie or otherwise -- give so much over to ambience..." -- RECOMMENDED by Pitchfork (10.04.07)

You can catch Bon Iver live this fall as he joins Elvis Perkins on a short jaunt through the Northeast United States and Canada:

11/10/07 - Madison, WI -Madison Pop Festival - Great Hall*
11/29/07- Montreal, QC- Cabaret Music Hall

The mighty BLACK MOUNTAIN have just finished flexing some serious rock muscle all over the U.S. and Canada. THE BESNARD LAKES tour with PETER BJORN AND JOHN

In support of their critically acclaimed avant-pop masterpiece "The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse", THE BESNARD LAKES will be spending late 2007 on tour with Sweden's PETER BJORN AND JOHN. It has been a magical year for The Besnard Lakes. They have toured both North America and Europe twice over, playing the most intimate rooms as well as on large festival stages where they've opened up for the likes of Smashing Pumpkins.

They have been nominated for prestigious prizes, such as for the POLARIS PRIZE, recognizing the best Canadian album of the year, and the ECHO SONGWRITING PRIZE for their song "Devastation". And their album has been an underground success story, being deemed by Pitchfork as one of the excellent overlooked records this year and having garnered great praise from prominent print media outlets such as Mojo (4 star review; see below.) Likely to make it on many year-end "best of 2007" lists, the Besnard Lakes make one last splash with a few weeks on the road with PETER BJORN AND JOHN.

Also recently available from the Besnard Lakes is the "Casino Nanaimo" 12-inch and a re-introduction of their debut album "Volume I":

Tour dates:

SUNSET RUBDOWN have just wrapped the first of their tours in support of their brand-new record "Random Spirit Lover". The band was able to deftly perform their intricately crafted compositions, and infuse them with an extra energy that can only translate in a live setting.

Here are some recaps from those who were there:

For a pictorial reference, check out these amazing photos, taken by Joshua Bean at the show in Cambridge, MA:

Eagles soar with 'Long Road'

Album sells more than 700,000 copies

Billboard magazine altered one of its policies regarding the reporting of Nielsen SoundScan data on Tuesday afternoon, paving the way to make the Eagles "Long Road Out of Eden" the No. 1 album in the country (U.S.A.)

The first Eagles studio album in 28 years, which has sold 711,000 copies since its release Oct. 30, was not eligible for the SoundScan top 200 chart due to its availability only at a single retailer, Wal-Mart, and its associated outlets. The top 200, tabulated by SoundScan and published in Billboard, only counts albums that are widely available.

Moby offers tracks to filmmakers

Artist provides tunes to independent films

Moby has become the latest artist to give away his new music for free -- but to a select audience: He's giving it to filmmakers.

The multifaceted dance music artist, known for his album "Play," is offering tracks to indie, nonprofit and student filmmakers for their works via his website mobygratis.com. If the films receive distribution, he asks for a small fee that will be donated to charity.

Currently, Moby is offering 44 unreleased tracks; 11 instrumental tracks from "Hotel," six from "Play: B Sides" and three from "18."

"The biggest complaint I hear from my friends who are indie filmmakers is that they can't get calls returned from record companies or that licensing quotes are outlandish," said Moby, who minored in film at SUNY Purchase. "Whenever I tell anyone about this, people keep expecting a catch. There isn't one."

Moby has been alerting film schools and some independent film organizations about the availability of the tracks. He intends to add another 20 tracks to the site later this month.

Chesney, Underwood, Paisley Lead Winners At CMAs

Ken Tucker, Nashville

Kenny Chesney took home entertainer of the year honors while labelmates Arista Nashville Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley each won two crystal trophies at the 41st annual Country Music Association Awards, held last night (Nov. 7) in Nashville.

Chesney's win was his second straight in the category and third in the last four years. While thanking his label, fans and radio, Chesney also threw a shout out to his hero and friend.

"I want to thank George Strait for paying for dinner last night," he said with a laugh. Underwood won top female honors for the second straight year, while her song "Before He Cheats," produced by Mark Bright, took home top single honors. The song spent five weeks at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs last year.

"I honestly didn't expect it at all," Underwood said backstage of her female nod. Meanwhile, Paisley took home his first male vocalist trophy. "I always wanted to win this award once; this'll do," the seven-time nominee said while accepting the honor. Paisley's "Online," which was directed by Jason Alexander of "Seinfeld" fame, nabbed top video honors.

Strait's
"It Just Comes Natural," which was co-produced by Tony Brown and Strait, was named album of the year. It was Strait's sixth win in the category and 18th CMA Award overall. "It's unbelievable to still be here," he said backstage. "When I walk on stage I still love it much as I ever did. The whole process of putting together a record is still fun for us."

The record is a collection of seven songs that the band wrote while writing and touring from 2005 to 2007 and were recorded in their hometown of Seattle within seven studio sessions. Some of the songs were written through some pretty hard times on the road, and subsequently their content is about dealing with the sacrifices they needed to make in order to pursue their goals.

MESSAGE FROM JIMMY PAGE TO O2 ATTENDEES:
[11.05.07] Email sent to ticket holders:

"As you all know by now I was regrettably put in a situation where I had to postpone my performance at the Ahmet Ertegun Benefit show, on November 26th, due to a fractured finger. We have now rescheduled this show to take place, at the same venue, on December 10th. In doing so I was very conscious of the fact that many people are travelling great distances to attend. I do want to let everyone know that this decision was unavoidable. My apologies to anyone who has been inconvenienced by this change.

I would also like to thank everyone else involved for their help with making this change. Harvey Goldsmith, the trustees of the Ahmet Ertegun Foundation and, of course, the other artists who so willingly agreed to join us on the show. I look forward to the 10th December!" -Jimmy Page
