WMG lifts digital guru to strategy gig

Warner Music Group shares jumped more than most Monday, climbing 13% on news of a revamped digital strategy.

Shares closed at $6.39 after the company announced that Michael Nash, its digital guru since 2000, will become exec VP of digital strategy and business development.

In his new role, Nash will handle worldwide digital strategy, including key initiatives driving Internet and mobile commerce, and new music-based products and services.

Nash has helped build WMG's distribution footprint and partnerships with such companies as AT&T, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Motorola.

It's never just the beat that matters!

Club music or dance music, as it has been called, has always been extremely dependent on atmosphere and content. One of the biggest myths about club music is that all that is needed is a good beat. For a record to stick in the listeners' memory and grab the attention of a dancing public, storyline and performance are equally important factors.

This was the thought behind DJ Hell`s cut My Definition of House and is confirmed by his vision of International Deejay Gigolo.

Since its rise to fame at the turn of the century International Deejay Gigolo Records has gone on to establish itself as one of the most pioneering and innovative labels in the field of electronic music. Right from the start Hells philosophy has always been: insist on more than the average. Try something a little unusual and less calculated than the rest.

Of course there is a certain single-mindedness to the Gigolo attitude. But it's a positive single-mindedness; it is precisely this self-confidence which has propelled the label and earned it the respect not just of dance music fans but of the music industry as a whole.

Starting from Winter Music Conference, Sasha and John will be hitting the pavement, bussing it through the country for a tour that is all about going back to their grass roots.

Sasha and John Digweed are truly bringing their sonic experience back to the people, and this tour offers something for every one of their fans. The tour will make stops at legendary rock venues such as the Warfield in San Francisco and Webster Hall in NYC.

In addition, many of the shows are 18+ and some are even all ages.

And because many of these events are taking place in traditional rock venues their shows may start at 9 and end at 2, as opposed to a traditional club night which starts at 2am and ends at 6am.

Advance tickets will be available directly through Wantickets beginning Feb 20 at 11am EST.

Paul Oakenfold remains one of the biggest names in dance music despite the fact he doesn’t actually DJ very much these days. His contribution to the glorious history of Acid House keeps his name firmly on the lips of clubbers worldwide. From his seminal Acid House night Spectrum, through producing the Happy Mondays, DJing at Wembley Stadium with U2 and on to the groundbreaking residency at Liverpool’s Cream, Oakey has consistently been the biggest name in the biz.

Now devoting most of his time to scoring movie soundtracks and based in LA, he takes a bit of stick from some quarters of the clubbing community for his Hollywood lifestyle. But despite the trappings of celebrity, his recent biography revealed how Paul’s vision for the DJ achieving equal status of a rock band paved the way for the massive global dance culture we have today. The Tiestos and Morillos of this world own him a great debt.

Now he’s reinvigorating his Perfecto imprint by finally launching a digital side to the label. And as well as putting out classic tracks from the existing roster of world famous artists, Paul is going to use the digital brand to give exposure to a whole new generation of fresh producers...
