Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that has its roots in London's early 2000s UK garage scene. The genre's name was coined by Ammunition Promotions. Musically, dubstep is distinguished by its dark mood, sparse rhythms, and emphasis on bass. Dubstep started to spread beyond small local scenes in late 2005 and early 2006, with many websites devoted to the genre appearing on the Internet and thus aiding the growth of the scene, such as dubstepforum, the download site Barefiles and blogs such as gutterbreakz.[2] Simultaneously, the genre was receiving extensive coverage in music magazines such as The Wire and online publications such as Pitchfork Media. Interest in dubstep grew significantly after BBC Radio 1 DJMary Anne Hobbs started championing the genre, beginning with a show devoted to it
(entitled "Dubstep Warz") in January 2006.[3][4][5]

Nottingham based record label ENGINE is set to reside at *Stealth the first Friday of the month, presenting a series of 3 parties over the summer bringing their unique mix of cutting edge house and techno.
First up is *Cocoon and *Freak'n'Chic star *David K.
The French maestro has been busily working in the studio with *Loco Dice and producing his new album.
"David is a mixture of romantic melodies on drugs, rocking beats a la Parisienne, and some unreasonable sounds to turn you on. He began his production career with the Boogabaloo EP on *Sismic, soon followed by his remix of Brett Johnson for the *Brique Rouge imprint.
In 2005 he delivered his first floorfiller, Free Kit, released on *Freak'n'Chic, the label of fellow Frenchman *Dan *Ghenacia, resident DJ at *DC10 in Ibiza. As a result David and Dan began working together under the moniker U&I and *Sven Vath, owner of *Cocoon, asked David for a remix of *Oliver Koletski.
From then the sky has been the limit. David's releases have been regularly supported and licensed by top DJs such as Luke Slater, Tiga, John Digweed & Ralph Lawson.
His productions have continued to find success on *Cocoon and *Freak'n'Chic amongst other labels and now he brings his all new live experience to the UK and ENGINE "
