NSDTCM:THE KILLERS

The Killers are hard at work collecting B-sides, rarities and one-off sides for a compilation album to be released later this year, entitled Sawdust, out November 12th on CD, download and limited edition double gatefold vinyl. The band is hunkered down at a recording studio in New York's Hell's Kitchen, completing the album with the legendary Lou Reed.

Brandon told Billboard.com that "we have about fifteen of these songs that people have never heard, and we wanted to stick them on something for people to get to have them all together."

The album will include both tracks that have previously been available as b-sides and brand new never before heard songs including "All the Pretty Faces" (which was the B-side of "When You Were Young"); two movie soundtrack tunes, "Shadowplay" (a Joy Division cover, from Control, Anton Corbijn's biopic of Ian Curtis) and "Move Away" (from Spiderman 3); as well as a cover of Kenny Rogers & the First Edition's "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" (taken from a 2005 Radio 1 Zane Lowe session). The collection will also contain songs which weren't complete for Sam's Town which the band recently went back into the studio to finish off.

HURRAH - A YEAR OF TA-DAH

Scissor Sisters will release their new DVD 'Hurrah - A Year of Ta-Dah' this November 12

As you'd expect from your Sisters this is no run of the mill music DVD.
A 40 minute documentary filmed around the world since last summer gives a unique glimpse into the crazy and colourful world of Scissor Sisters.

In the documentary you see what happens when the band travel the world, from Australia to America and everywhere in between, promoting their multi-million selling album 'Ta-Dah'. As well as the highs, you get to see what life is really like on the road with Scissor Sisters.

There is behind the scenes footage ranging from their guest role in American daytime soap opera Passions, to the 'She's My Man' video shoot with celebrated Japanese artist Nagi Noda.

The DVD also includes a live concert filmed at London's 02 during the band's sold-out 'Kiss You Off' tour this summer. You get to see the show close up and witness what The Independent described as "the venue being transformed into the biggest disco in the world."

Extras on the DVD include a 25 minute acoustic gig filmed for GCap at an intimate venue and all four music videos from 'Ta-Dah'.

The artwork for 'Hurrah - A Year of Ta-Dah' was created by renowned artist Drew Struzan. Drew created seminal movie posters for a number of films including Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Drew was asked to design the sleeve by the band who have long been fans of his work.

Edge has been with J since its inception in 2000 when he joined as vice president, A&R. During his tenure he has teamed with Alicia Keys, Dido, Mario and Jamie Foxx among others. Prior to joining J, he was senior director of A&R at Arista Records.

MTV makes deal for untitled project

Executive producer of "America's Top Model," Ken Mok

Mok, the exec producer of "America's Next Top Model," will develop and exec produce a pilot for the zitgeist net possibly in the reality-competition category. MTV declined to specify the subject of the project; it's likely net will be choosing either from several ideas pitched by the creator or will have him oversee an existing project.

Deal reps a continuation of a long relationship. Mok created MTV aspirational reality skein "Making the Band," which was overseen for the net by Tony DiSanto, now MTV's programming chief.

On board to spice things up are Brazilian punk/funk sensations Cansei de ser Sexy (CSS) and label mates Liars, both with brilliant remixes of the title track.

The pairing of CSS and Tiny Masters Of Today is a typically improbable one, the bands have never met in real life but became friends via MySpace, corresponding for over a year before finally coming up with an appropriate project to collaborate on.

Adriano Cintra from CSS explains, "I first heard of Tiny Masters on MySpace. I got really crazy about them, I wanted to have younger brother and sister like them. Kinda of, hey, let's make party songs for when we get older... now I am older and I'm glad I got Tiny Masters as friends!"

The remix strips away the fuzz guitar stomp and re-invents the song as an electro-pop classic that you can imagine hearing blaring from boomboxes and car stereos... on other planets.

Label mates Liars take a more deconstructionist approach, creating a hypnotic and apocalyptic dub soundscape that is, frankly, kind of scary. In retribution, Tiny Masters of Today took a crack at remixing "Clear Island" from Liars' new album, the "Tiny Liars of Today" mix will appear the next Liars single release.

Debut Tiny Masters of Today album ‘Bang Bang Boom Cake' was recorded in New York with production duties handled by legendary Jon Spencer Blues Explosion drummer Russell Simins and the Elegant Too. Simins, who is also the band's live drummer, plays on most of the album alongside a number of artists from the diverse New York music community such as Kimya Dawson (Moldy Peaches), Fred Schneider (the B-52s), Gibby Haynes (the Butthole Surfers) and Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs).

Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder releases his first solo album in the form the soundtrack for the Sean Penn directed film Into The Wild on September 24th.

This is the first-ever complete collection of Eddie Vedder solo music.

The film, which opens in the UK on 9th November, is directed by Sean Penn. Director Sean Penn hand-picked Vedder to provide the music for the film. Vedder's cover of the song 'Hard Sun' (originally written by Gordon Peterson and performed by the band Indio on the album Big Harvest) features backing vocals by Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney and appears in the film, along with a slew of other folky ballads.

The soundtrack is to the film adaptation of Jon Krakauer's best selling book Into The Wild.

Vedder and Penn have been friends for over a decade; the Pearl Jam frontman previously contributed music to the soundtrack for Penn's 1995 film Dead Man Walking and also recorded a cover of the Beatles' You've Got To Hide Your Love Away for 2001's I Am Sam.

Contrary to internet reports, Eddie Vedder does not appear in the movie.

In the film a young idealist, played by Emile Hirsch (Alpha Dog, Girl Next Door) abandons all his possessions and life as most of us know it for the Alaskan wilderness.

Meanwhile, Eddie Vedder has also contributed two new songs, No More and Long Nights, to the documentary Body of War. The former track has been performed.

Kanye West not only won last week's head-to-head competition with 50 Cent, the rapper-producer-songwriter posted the highest one-week sales mark in 2½ years.

The pair combined to generate the biggest sales week ever for two debuting albums.

West's "Graduation" (Roc-A-Fella) sold 957,000 copies in its first week, the highest total since March 2005, when 50 Cent's "The Massacre" sold 1.1 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Van Halen has been hosting open rehearsals at the Forum in Los Angeles for the past week in anticipation of their reunion tour. Scott Ian from Anthrax checked out a recent show and posted about it on his MySpace page: “They were fucking amazing (ear-boners). Seriously, the hair on my arms was standing up. Dave sang great, Eddie was shredding, Alex is a fucking monster and Wolf was perfect. Great on bass and hit every high note. The set list was 2 1/2 hours of the best shit. I’m The One, Atomic Punk, Romeo Delight, Somebody Get Me A Doctor, Mean Street, Unchained and so many more. Do whatever you gotta do to get tix to see this. FINALLY!!!!! A real full blown arena rock act!!!!! It’s like listening to the soundtrack of America since 1978. THE KINGS ARE BACK!!!!!!!”

Over on Blabbermouth, someone who attended the fourth rehearsal on Sunday reported approximately 500 friends and family members showed up, including Tom Morello, Kirk Hammett and Zakk Wylde, who tried to jump onstage with Eddie and Co., only to be yanked down by security. Wylde then evidently traded shoes with a lady in the crowd and spent some quality time in high heels.

The three members of The Automatic - Rob Hawkins, James Frost and Iwan Griffiths - will soon be flying to the USA to start recording the follow up to their debut album 'Not Accepted Anywhere' and are looking forward to announcing more news soon.

The Glorious Unseen began with a Sunday night Bible study… Disillusioned by the local church scene, a few former youth pastors and friends gathered on a spring Sunday night outside Nashville, TN. What took place ignited their hearts together... They came together to express their desire for God. They came together because they desired community... Their style of ministry was different… Not ever knowing what was going to happen, they continued to meet every Sunday night to pursue God... and to have Him pursue them. The worship that emerged from this group was simple, introspective, and vulnerable. When worship leader Ben Crist wrote his first song - he didn't consider it a worship song... "I just wrote this cool song, but never thought it would be something we would play in worship. I thought maybe I'd have a side project where I'd play some of my own songs from time to time."

Steve Bartels to oversee all day-to-day matters

Steve Bartels has been promoted to president/COO, Island Def Jam Music Group, in which he will oversee all day-to-day matters of the company and its labels.

He will continue to work closely with Shawn Carter (Jay-Z), president/CEO, Def Jam Recordings; Jermaine Dupri, president, Island Records Urban Music; and David Massey, president, Mercury Records.

Bartels, based in New York, will report directly to Antonio "L.A." Reid, chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.
