The buzz term that keeps popping up for the Oregonian tag-team is “lap-pop,” but their music has more to do with actual sunlight than it does the glow of the monitor, and their words are more like transcendental treatises than party anthems. At the core of their tapestry of electro harmonies and layered percussion is the invigorating and refractory soul of old school riot grrl. Signed in 2008 to DFA Records, they are very much a part of that label’s bias towards testing the definition of electro. And as their music expands beyond genre, they have expanded the concept of what a musical collective can be. As expressed in the opening statements of their manifesto, “YACHT is a Band, Belief System, and Business.”

James Murphy's LCD Soundsystem has been the definitive name in underground dance-punk for almost a decade. A skilled arranger, multi-instrumentalist and remixer, Murphy is also the founder of DFA records which puts out artists that can rival LCD's originality. On July 28, Murphy and his touring percussionist/partner-in-crime Pat Mahoney will be hitting the decks for a night of choice cuts.

HOLY SHIT! The creator of NYC's most infectious electro beats is multi-media artist Bad Brilliance. A star talent on Andrew W.K.'s Skyscraper Music Maker label, Bad B's makes tracks that are NYC technopunk with Hot 97 aspirations. Disguised by a large red suit with a yellow balloon for a head, his live performances are visual happenings as well, full of surprises and opportunities for crowd participation.

We kicked off the year with the release of 12"'s of Pleasure which featured great tracks from DJ Vadim, Roy Ayers, Aaron Jerome and many others and have continued to bring the finest quality Hip-hop, Reggae and House music to you since.

House/Dance

The 'Nightdubbin'' Triple CD of dubbed out classic dance and disco tracks from Dimitri From Paris mixed by the Idjut Boys that hit the street in May. Featuring new takes on old classics in a very new style for Dimitri is a must have collection. BBE also released a collection of reworkings by the master Pepe Bradock.

His 'Confiote de Bits' album has been hailed as a classic, featuring remixes of almost mythical tracks from the past 10 years.

Hip Hop

Plenty for Hip Hop lovers in 2009.

We've seen the first release in many years from Funky DL with The Interview EP. The first release from Canada's Party Hip-Hoppers, Notes To Self, featuring a finely balanced style between Hip-Hop, backed by rock style beats. And of course Who could Forget DJ Vadim, constantly changing, constantly creating, Always Great!

In what is one of the most eclectic Hip-Hop albums of the decade, Vadim shows all his talents in the creation of this masterpiece

BBE also pulled off a major coup in the release of David Rodigan's 'Real Authentic Reggae Vol. 2'

And if that weren't enough we're also had time to release records from Henrik Schwarz, Ame & Dixon and Phantogram and there's much more to come very soon.

Angels was 'one of those clubs' situated in the heart of Lancashire mill town Burnley.

It opitimised everything about the early exploding dance scene in the UK diring the late 80s. A magnet for clubbers seeking a fresh underground sound, they came from everywhere, all corners of the UK.

Angels was so popular at one point the local rozzers had to put up a blockade to stop party people getting into the town which made front page headlines in the local papers - all good fun.

Iconic in status, Angels was championed by then resident Paul Taylor and local boy Steve Farkas.

It was the bedrock of a fast growing alternative dance scene; profiling new DJ names such as Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, Pete Tong...the list was endless but it was the clubs residents that gave it its own sound.

The family atmosphere lasted right through to its eventual closure by Burnley council to make way for a new shopping development. Still held very close in people's hearts, the Angels atmosphere and its ethos continues today with regular events at Fusion in Burnley.

This CD acknowledges and is dedicated to those who came to party with us. One of those party people was Jane Angel whose whole life at the time was immersed by the unity created in that building every weekend.

Today alongside Paul Taylor they still keep that proverbial flame alive.
