DUO REACH SETTLEMENT ON NAPSTER

DUO REACH SETTLEMENT ON NAPSTER

Warner Music, Bertelsmann resolve claims

Warner Music Group Corp. and Bertelsmann AG have settled claims relating to the P2P music-swapping service Napster. The settlement covers the resolution of the legal claims of WMG's recorded music and music publishing businesses in 2000 and 2001.

Bertelsmann admits no liability in making the settlement.

Bertelsmann, which bought Napster's assets in 2002, settled a lawsuit with EMI in March and Universal Music in September.

Bertelsmann sold the Napster name to Roxio in 2003.

Ivan Smagghe leaves Black Strobe

NEWSSOURCEDOTCOM:NEWS:DJ IVAN SMAGGHE

Ivan Smagghe leaves Black Strobe

The DJ half of the Parisian electro project calls it quits. The split comes as Black Strobe move away from remix work towards being a full fledged live band with guitars, drums and Arnaud Rebotini on vocals. Since its inception, Smagghe declined to participate in the live project, preferring to watch from the sidelines.

“My DJing has zero influence on Black Strobe,” a frustrated Smagghe told RA in late 2006. “I try and keep the two things quite separate.”

"Musical differences" has been announced as the reason for the split.

No surprises there for Black Strobe watchers, with Smagghe sticking to electronic dance music and Rebotini exploring more gothic rock influences on recent material. “It’s not always easy to keep the lid on all these influences,” Smagghe told RA.

“I suppose we have grown up, and the electronic simplicity was not enough anymore. But it may be what we go back to next…”No such luck, with the format split now announced by Rebotini to DJ Mag's Richard Brophy.

“Smagghe has moved away and is focused on his DJ career,” says Rebotini on the Test Industries blog. “Black Strobe’s changeover to a live sound was difficult for him because he’s a great DJ, but he’s not a musician and he didn’t feel comfortable being on stage.

Black Strobe was always about finding an equilibrium and while he brought the dance floor sensibility, maybe my influence was too strong.”
The split comes on the eve of the release of Black Strobe’s debut album ‘Burn Your Own Church’, which arrives in June.

NEWSSOURCEDOTCOM:NEWS:LABEL:MUTE:RELEASE:ERASURE
Released 2nd April 2007
New single I Could Fall in Love With You is available on 2 CDs, 7" picture disc and download. The album Light At The End Of The World follows on 21st May.
The album was written and recorded at a private home in Maine, USA. Vince Clarke and Andy Bell alongside producer Gareth Jones converted the house into a recording studio for a month, where they cut ten new electronic songs in the classic Erasure style.
Vince: This is one of the few songs that existed in part before the Maine hotel room writing sessions. Before we started this album, I was really keen for it not to be mid-tempo - I'm having a mid-tempo crisis! Our albums seem to have got slower and slower, so I started searching for classic funk or disco basslines, put some ideas together with chord changes and basslines underneath, and emailed them to Andy for him to sing over the top. The song, like this album, is quite 'up' and uptempo because we're both in good spaces right now.
