Peter Hook Says New Order Split

NEWSOURCEDOTCOM: PETER HOOK SAYS NEW ORDER SPLIT

New Order
have split up, according to bassist Peter Hook. Speaking to Xfm about his involvement in Perry Farrell's new group Satellite Party, Hook said: "I spoke to Perry [Farrell], and he asked me to play bass [with Satellite Party], as he'd heard about New Order splitting up. Well yeah, me and Bernard [Sumner] aren't working together." Hook later posted on his MySpace page saying that he was relieved to have finally told the world about the band's split.

No word on if this will effect the band making an apperance at the May 17th Cannes premiere of
Control, the new film about the life of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis.

New Order are said to have re-recorded a number of
Joy Division tracks for the film, along with some "incidental music."

The new album '23' out now!!!

NEWSSOURCEDOTCOM:NEWS:LABEL:4AD: BLONDE REDHEAD

The new album '23' out now!!!

Blonde Redhead's last album - 'Misery Is A Butterfly' - established them once and for all as one of the most distinctive and precious bands of their generation.

Blonde Redhead

2007 sees them return with something even more spellbinding, '23'. Recorded and produced by the band in New York City during the second half of last year, they drafted in Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio) to engineer it while mixing duties were shared by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Killers, Nine Inch Nails) and Rich Costey (Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Bloc Party).

The resulting album is as rich and densely-layered as the last one, but the overall mood of wistfulness, melancholy and regret has been replaced by one of mystical wonder and renewed energy.

Blonde Redhead played the 4AD showcase last month at SXSW alongside label mates Beirut, Emma Pollock, The Mountain Goats and Wolf & Cub. They're now touring in the US and reach Europe in June...

"Blonde Redhead shock us with their most accessibly perfect disc ever, 23"
Rolling Stone

"With 23, Blonde Redhead has made an album that seems to be before, of, and beyond its time."
Amplifier

"Their seventh LP unfolds like a vivid dream...It's an enthralling listen proving once and for all that they deserve the wide success of fellow travelers like Radiohead and Sonic Youth"
Entertainment Weekly

"An impressive set from a band who, 14 years into their career, plainly still have fire in their belly."
Q

"A smouldering, perfumed opiate that's chilling and delightful."
Metro 4/5

"this is what you need to know: 23 is the next record you have to buy."

Ivan Smagghe leaves Black Strobe

NEWSSOURCEDOTCOM:NEWS:DJ IVAN SMAGGHE

Ivan Smagghe leaves Black Strobe

The DJ half of the Parisian electro project calls it quits. The split comes as Black Strobe move away from remix work towards being a full fledged live band with guitars, drums and Arnaud Rebotini on vocals. Since its inception, Smagghe declined to participate in the live project, preferring to watch from the sidelines.

“My DJing has zero influence on Black Strobe,” a frustrated Smagghe told RA in late 2006. “I try and keep the two things quite separate.”

"Musical differences" has been announced as the reason for the split.

No surprises there for Black Strobe watchers, with Smagghe sticking to electronic dance music and Rebotini exploring more gothic rock influences on recent material. “It’s not always easy to keep the lid on all these influences,” Smagghe told RA.

“I suppose we have grown up, and the electronic simplicity was not enough anymore. But it may be what we go back to next…”No such luck, with the format split now announced by Rebotini to DJ Mag's Richard Brophy.

“Smagghe has moved away and is focused on his DJ career,” says Rebotini on the Test Industries blog. Black Strobe’s changeover to a live sound was difficult for him because he’s a great DJ, but he’s not a musician and he didn’t feel comfortable being on stage.

Black Strobe was always about finding an equilibrium and while he brought the dance floor sensibility, maybe my influence was too strong.”
The split comes on the eve of the release of Black Strobe’s debut album ‘Burn Your Own Church’, which arrives in June.
