RICHARD YOUNGS' "Autumn Response" is here!

It's Fall.

We know this because the leaves in Indiana are turning many shades of awesome, and because there's a new Richard Youngs album in the hopper, readymade to soundtrack your late mulled cider nights.

The album is called "Autumn Response", and it is a spartan folk-"pop" record filled with tinder-box intimacies. It is a singer-songwriter album, as Youngs' fingers slip over the steel strings with little feet and whispery toes, his gently prophetic songs evoke Roger Waters and the folk phase play is sure to appeal to fans of Animal Collective's Sung Tongs.

Jagjaguwar and BON IVER shack up!

We are seriously thrilled to announce the addition of Bon Iver to the Jagjaguwar family. In early 2008 Jagjaguwar will properly release the debut full-length "For Emma, Forever Ago" that has been making major waves in critics circles based on the strength of an early artist-pressed advance cd and a couple awe-inspiring sets at CMJ a few weeks back.

The New York Times called it "irresistible" and Pitchfork stamped its early review of the album with a Recommended tag. For those of you hiding away in a cabin of your own, it's time that you hear the story, and more importantly, the music.

Free MP3 of "Skinny Love" from "For Emma, Forever ago": http://www.scjag.com/mp3/jag/skinnylove.mp3 Stream the entire album at: http://virb.com/boniver

"The album is a ruminative collection of songs full of natural imagery and acoustic strums -- the sound of a man left alone with his memories and a guitar... Rarely does folk -- indie or otherwise -- give so much over to ambience..." -- RECOMMENDED by Pitchfork (10.04.07)

You can catch Bon Iver live this fall as he joins Elvis Perkins on a short jaunt through the Northeast United States and Canada:

BLACK MOUNTAIN wrap up North American tour, depart for Europe

The mighty BLACK MOUNTAIN have just finished flexing some serious rock muscle all over the U.S. and Canada. Anyone who saw them was only too happy to have their eardrums invaded and their bones rattled. If you were not able to experience them firsthand, these reviews will attest to their ferocity:

The release of "In The Future" is still a few months away, so for now, you have to subsist on the following information, or see them live to preview the new jams:

THE BESNARD LAKES tour with PETER BJORN AND JOHN

In support of their critically acclaimed avant-pop masterpiece "The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse", THE BESNARD LAKES will be spending late 2007 on tour with Sweden's PETER BJORN AND JOHN. It has been a magical year for The Besnard Lakes. They have toured both North America and Europe twice over, playing the most intimate rooms as well as on large festival stages where they've opened up for the likes of Smashing Pumpkins.

They have been nominated for prestigious prizes, such as for the POLARIS PRIZE, recognizing the best Canadian album of the year, and the ECHO SONGWRITING PRIZE for their song "Devastation". And their album has been an underground success story, being deemed by Pitchfork as one of the excellent overlooked records this year and having garnered great praise from prominent print media outlets such as Mojo (4 star review; see below.) Likely to make it on many year-end "best of 2007" lists, the Besnard Lakes make one last splash with a few weeks on the road with PETER BJORN AND JOHN.

Also recently available from the Besnard Lakes is the "Casino Nanaimo" 12-inch and a re-introduction of their debut album "Volume I":

Tour dates:

11/23/2007 Houston, TX - Warehouse
11/24/2007 Dallas, TX - Palladium
11/25/2007 Oklahoma City, OK - Cain's
11/26/2007 Kansas City, MO - Madrid

SUNSET RUBDOWN complete successful North American tour

SUNSET RUBDOWN have just wrapped the first of their tours in support of their brand-new record "Random Spirit Lover". Anyone who wondered how they were going to replicate their complex arrangements in a live setting is wondering no more. The band was able to deftly perform their intricately crafted compositions, and infuse them with an extra energy that can only translate in a live setting.

Here are some recaps from those who were there:

For a pictorial reference, check out these amazing photos, taken by Joshua Bean at the show in Cambridge, MA:

Eagles soar with 'Long Road'

Album sells more than 700,000 copies

Billboard magazine altered one of its policies regarding the reporting of Nielsen SoundScan data on Tuesday afternoon, paving the way to make the Eagles "Long Road Out of Eden" the No. 1 album in the country (U.S.A.)

The first Eagles studio album in 28 years, which has sold 711,000 copies since its release Oct. 30, was not eligible for the SoundScan top 200 chart due to its availability only at a single retailer, Wal-Mart, and its associated outlets. The top 200, tabulated by SoundScan and published in Billboard, only counts albums that are widely available.

Moby offers tracks to filmmakers

Artist provides tunes to independent films

Moby has become the latest artist to give away his new music for free -- but to a select audience: He's giving it to filmmakers.

The multifaceted dance music artist, known for his album "Play," is offering tracks to indie, nonprofit and student filmmakers for their works via his website mobygratis.com. If the films receive distribution, he asks for a small fee that will be donated to charity.

Currently, Moby is offering 44 unreleased tracks; 11 instrumental tracks from "Hotel," six from "Play: B Sides" and three from "18."

"The biggest complaint I hear from my friends who are indie filmmakers is that they can't get calls returned from record companies or that licensing quotes are outlandish," said Moby, who minored in film at SUNY Purchase. "Whenever I tell anyone about this, people keep expecting a catch. There isn't one."

Moby has been alerting film schools and some independent film organizations about the availability of the tracks. He intends to add another 20 tracks to the site later this month.

Chesney, Underwood, Paisley Lead Winners At CMAs

Ken Tucker, Nashville

Kenny Chesney took home entertainer of the year honors while labelmates Arista Nashville Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley each won two crystal trophies at the 41st annual Country Music Association Awards, held last night (Nov. 7) in Nashville.

Chesney's win was his second straight in the category and third in the last four years. While thanking his label, fans and radio, Chesney also threw a shout out to his hero and friend.

"I want to thank George Strait for paying for dinner last night," he said with a laugh. Underwood won top female honors for the second straight year, while her song "Before He Cheats," produced by Mark Bright, took home top single honors. The song spent five weeks at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs last year.

"I honestly didn't expect it at all," Underwood said backstage of her female nod. Meanwhile, Paisley took home his first male vocalist trophy. "I always wanted to win this award once; this'll do," the seven-time nominee said while accepting the honor. Paisley's "Online," which was directed by Jason Alexander of "Seinfeld" fame, nabbed top video honors.

Strait's
"It Just Comes Natural," which was co-produced by Tony Brown and Strait, was named album of the year. It was Strait's sixth win in the category and 18th CMA Award overall. "It's unbelievable to still be here," he said backstage. "When I walk on stage I still love it much as I ever did. The whole process of putting together a record is still fun for us."
