Terence Fixmer, France: “Nice one. Good work!”
—————–
“I’m a motor fan anyway, but yeah good work. Tough and pretty nasty, wicked breakdown (or rev-up…)”

—————-
Xaver Nadascha, Berlin: “Killer mix you made. I am playing Berghain tonite can you shoot over a 320mp3 or WAV. Would love to tear up the place with it. I’m, not a Motor fan at all but you gave it just the right rave factor.”

BAND: THE BAYS [UK]

Hello – Simon from The Bays here.

Just a quick one to let you know about what we consider our first weekend of the festival season - and in true Bays’ style, it’s as manic as the House of Commons accounts department.Friday 29th May we’ll be down at Audio in Brighton, re-acquainting ourselves with our favourite Sussex low-ceilinged basement. It’ll be a good old-school down and dirty affair and a chance for us to loosen our limbs for Saturday’s slot on the 30th May at the small but perfectly formed Sunrise Celebration festival.

We’ll be headlining there down in the West country and pausing briefly for breath on Sunday, before traveling to Bath for our Monday 1st June slot at the Bath Fringe Festival.

We’re playing at the Komedia, and by this point will be so lost in it all that the coming months, bringing shows at Kelburn Castle in Largs, Glastonbury, The Glade, Croatia, Shambala and all the other improbable events and venues – including the Tower of London – will cease to seem like the wall of mud and fun they are destined to be, and be more like a natural progression from this first relentless weekend. So, remember – Audio, Sunrise, Bath.

Might as well resign yourself to the fact it’s summer now and if you start early you won’t have to come up with any feeble excuses later. As with all our gigs, you can get all the details from www.thebays.com and, most importantly, as with all our gigs they simply can’t happen if you don’t show up. We play because you’re there.

See you very soon.

Simon Palmskin.

This Month on YoshiRadio: Ned Shepard!

YoshiRadio will be releasing its eighth installment and this month features Ned Shepard.

Recently nominated, along with DJ Sultan, for Best Progressive House Artist at the 2009 Beatport Awards, Ned Shepard has been busy making a name for himself. While collaborating with Sultan, the pair has released tracks on Yoshitoshi and Shinichi, such as ‘Jeopardy’, ‘Let’s Get Physical’, and most recently, a killer remix of Dean Coleman's ‘I Want You’. In addition to Yoshitoshi, their work has appeared on renowned labels such as Armada, Renaissance, Global Underground, and Vandit.

The team launched Harem Records in 2008 as a platform for their latest productions; although he's a familiar face alongside Sultan, be sure to check out some of Ned’s solo work released on Harem. Coming up next on Yoshitoshi is the duo's remix of DBNs ‘Asteroidz’ due out at the end of May.

Check out Ned’s mix this month for YoshiRadio!

One thing that never ever goes a miss though is plain, old-fashioned hard graft… and the easily-evidenced kind at that.

In that regard stepping up to the plate, in quite considerable form this month is Blake Jarrell , who has either remixed or outright produced every single 1 of the 25 tracks on his new compendium. Entitled ‘Concentrate’ (something he probably had to remind himself to do a fair bit), Armin’s protégée, eschewed the gigs and locked himself into a steadfast studio routine at the start of the year.
The mission: to finish the productions he needed to complete the ‘Concentrate’ project.

The first disc (which contains just the 11 Blake Jarrell remixes!) tacks between reworks of better known production names like Gabriel & Dresden, Arnej and Kyau & Albert, while reserving enough disc space for some lesser known entities too. Astrid Suryanto, Dobenbeck & Nosmo & Kris B among them. The 2nd disc meanwhile has more of Jarrell’s original material, including the bare-faced funk of ‘Take Care’ and the sonically-superb ‘Tadanka’. It’s a coolly engaging prog-trance listen One that (not unexpectedly given he’s had put hands to all the included material) makes for a very cohesive listen.

Blake Jarrell presents Concentrate 2009’ is out now and available direct through the Armada website.
